Top 10 Tips for your Computer Housekeeping.

  1. Inbox Zero! Delete any unwanted emails, “file” those you may require but don’t really need in your inbox, and unless automated, remember to “empty” your deleted and sent items on a regular basis.
  2. Declutter. The same applies to all the files you have stored on your computer: those letters you drafted last year; the shopping list from the summer pic nic; the Christmas wish list….get rid of them if you don’t really need them.
  3. Be Thorougly Modern. “Updates are available – would you like to install them now?” Yes. To keep your IT systems running smoothly, and to help keep you safe, you should keep up with your updates.
  4. Turn On Its Head. It’s a good idea to very gently hold your keyboard upside down and very gently shake it to lose any titbits that may have escaped from your morning biscuits.
  5. Softly Softly. You can also vacuum the vents on your tower – but again we advise being very careful when doing this as remember, computer parts can be extremely sensitive.
  6. Recycle. That “bin” on your desktop will need emptying every so often too.
  7. Double Check. It doesn’t hurt to run a manual virus check every so often, if nothing else for peace of mind.
  8. Remember When…if you’ve had your systems for a while, it may be worth considering adding some more memory which will help speed everything up.
  9. Charge. If you look after your laptop’s battery, it will thank you and reward you with longevity.
  10. MOT. If you have any niggling concerns, perhaps you should consider sending your computer in for a health check which will identify any areas that need attention.
These are only meant as guidelines to help you get the most out of your computer. If you would like any clarification on this, or any other matter, then please feel free to get in touch. We wish you, as always, continued happy and safe computing.
